An intro (part two)
I’m Alex Wallace, dog photographer and trainer at The Dogs By Alex, based in Streatham, south London. Both dog photography and dog training are very personal to each dog and person, so I want to introduce myself so you know who I am and why I started The Dogs By Alex!
Why The Dogs By Alex?
Photography
After studying graphic design and working in the editorial sector I quickly took the leap into freelance life in my early twenties, pursuing my love of photography. And I still do this (you can see my human work here) and also run my production company, Fern Films. I love finding a characterful moment in humans and that translates to dogs - it’s amazing how both can shine with the most subtle of changes in mood, atmosphere and connection.
Why dogs in particular though? Read Part One if you haven’t already! It’s quite special to watch a dog in front of a camera. Even the ones you think might not settle reach a point where they seem to breath and relax into the situation, unaware that they then give the most stunning expressions. Ultimately I ensure dogs are comfortable and relaxed with me as a person before engaging in any kind of photography. You can read about how I achieve this here.
Training & behaviour
You can read Part One for the insight into the ‘why’ for a start!
Admittedly the training aspect came much later down the line because I wanted to ensure, without a doubt, that I could impart my knowledge wisely and with clarity and responsibility. And here we are - at this stage I adore the chance to teach others what I’ve learnt along the way. My aim is to help you and your dog thrive together, and develop a bond that is undeniably in sync. It’s the most special thing to see both guardians and dogs work through a challenge to come out the other side with trust, understanding, joy and a chance to relax more in life.
My training packages are all 1-2-1, not online, as I strongly believe that you can achieve so much more in person. I run my dog training based in Tooting, London, but also run my dog trainer sessions in Surrey, Sussex and Kent - just get in touch to see if we can work together.
Why dogs?
Because of their unwavering love, devotion, infectious ability to be in the moment, enjoyment for life, hardiness, strength, courage, their willingness to love and to be loved - it’s all-encompassing. I can’t imagine a life without them, truly.
